The Head Turning Annabelle Tutorial

Produced and filmed by Ruiliang Hong (洪瑞良)

The reason I want to do this project is that I love horror movies. There is a very common horror movie trope that I’ve noticed, the 180 degree head turn, so I have decided to make one for myself. Mechanical engineering is not my specialty, so I tried to use all the materials at hand. The first thing that came to mind was the Mini 4WD motor, because it spins and I know nothing about industry software. I have to wait until the product is finished to understand what’s going on. Anyway, I did it because it was fun.

The first thing that I did was drawing. As someone who does fine art for a living, drawing isn’t difficult for me. It took me about 2 hours to complete it.

The procedure is as follows:

First, make a 3D model, then go to 3D printing and coloring.

The most challenging part of this project is the hair attachment. You have to spend time to manually attach each and every strand of hair.

After that, you have to trim the bangs, make braids and bow ties.

Then put in all the components you have prepared.

All done!

After a successful run, I found that the mechanics is actually quite easy. If you did your elementary science experiments, you know it. To be honest, if it’s difficult I wouldn’t understand it either.

Anyway, I hope you have a good time. I’ll be sharing the file with everybody soon!
